Lohri is a pristine festival and having meaningful message inside of people all relations. The most legendary behind the celebrations of Lohri is about The Guru of Granths Sahib. Lohri is one such important regional festival of the North Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and some other states Its mention is Sikh holy books and Hindu holy books. The day of Lohri is a festival where all the family members are reunited for the celebration. It is mostly considered a Punjabi festival but celebrated widely in North India as well as, it is celebrated as a symbol of love for celebrations. It is also called the ‘harvest festival ’a week before Lohri, children begin gathering firewood, hunting for logs that will burn well. A spirit of good-matured rivalry binds the community together and everyone takes pride in making the biggest and most grand bonfire in their neighborhood. Lohri is an important festival which brings the entire community together, each family contributing sweets made of til and gur, peanuts, tilchowli and many other delicious home-made delicacies.

The Guru Granths Sahib praises this auspicious time of the month and says those who meditate before a fire will be blessed. Lohri, which marks the highest point in winter, is considered especially important for new born babies who are taken around the bonfire. They pray for prosperity even as they make offerings of gingerly, peanuts and beaten rice to the burning embers.

The festival is definitely celebrated in a more cosmopolitan fashion now. To enjoy winters with friends and family Lohri, the bonfire festival is another chance to organise a fine dinner. In the evening, with the sitting of the sun, the wood crackles and burns, the fire blazes high, a circle of warmth on a cold winter’s night.  huge bonfires are lit in the harvested fields and in the front yards of houses and people gather around the rising flames, circle around the bonfire and throw puffed rice, popcorn and other munchies into the fire, shouting “Aadar aye dilather jaye” and sing popular folk songs. This is a sort of prayer to Agni, the fire god, to bless the land with abundance and prosperity. After turn round people meet friends and relatives, exchange greetings and gifts, and distribute Prasad.

And winter savories are served around the bonfire with the traditional dinner in night of make to hand-rolled corn bread and sarson-ka-saag. And then the courtyard and rooms of the house are swept and sprinkled with water. As the sun sets, all people dress up in their best and gather around the bonfire. Newly wed ones wear jewelry. Dirt be uprooted and its roots Cast in the fire. “The new-born are given little combs to hold. A burning fagot is brought from the hearth and sets the Lohri bonfire alight. People throw sticks of sugarcane into the fire and an aroma of burning sugar spreads in the atmosphere. Girls light fireworks and sparklers. The fire’s glow lights faces with a golden hue. People sing and dance till the early hours of the morning, and little children sleep in their mother’s laps.

Lohri is essentially a festival dedicated to the Sun god. Lohri is a joyous time to eat gur and peanuts, singing songs and share the warmth with your family and loved ones.
